Tracking subscription renewals

This is how I set up quick reminders in Things for all my recurring subscriptions – if you use another task manager, adapt as required.

The job

I want to know what I'm spending on recurring subscriptions at a glance, and ensure that I'm never surprised by a renewal.

How I do it without stress

When I subscribe to a service, I immediately open a Quick Entry item in Things. I note what it is and which account it comes out of. Then set a repeating reminder a year ahead, with a 14 day deadline. So I'll always be given 2 weeks notice that a subscription will renew.

And because Things is lovely, you get a nice neat view of all your recurring subscriptions in the finance category.
